About this site

My name is Dan Swenson. I am a data nerd who is also a Minnesota workers' compensation attorney and a city council member. Public information should not be hard to use, so I build this network of sites as a hobby: I pull scattered public records out of PDFs and government databases and turn them into tools regular people can actually use. I do not use these sites to find legal clients, except for MN Comp Buddy which is my actual day job. The tools are free. The sites pay for their own hosting through clearly disclosed referral links and a few optional paid guides.

MN Insurance Buddy puts those public records one search away: the rate-increase tracker built on Minnesota's public filing record, the NAIC complaint index explained in plain English, and Commerce enforcement actions with the Department's own order documents linked. Where the state publishes no bulk data (the producer license roster and filing summaries), we have Minnesota Government Data Practices Act requests drafted, and we say plainly what we have and what we are still waiting on.

Three commitments. First, lookups here are anonymous: we never store what you search or who you check, period. Second, every fact cites a named public source with the date we last checked it; when our copy and the government's page disagree, the government's page controls. Third, the record is never for sale: no one can pay to change, hide, or polish what their public record shows here.

Two things this site is not. It is not a government site: Not affiliated with the State of Minnesota or MNsure. And it is not an insurance seller: MN Insurance Buddy does not sell, solicit, negotiate, recommend, or bind insurance. We do not quote premiums or recommend coverage amounts. MN Insurance Buddy is part of a small family of free Minnesota tools: Comp Buddy for work injuries, Hail Buddy for storm damage, Property Tax Buddy for assessments, Radon Buddy for radon levels, and Wage Buddy for paychecks. Same builder, same rules: public data, cited sources, nothing about you stored.
