The short version

Browsing this site is anonymous. The agent, insurer, and rate-filing lookups never store what you search or whose record you check. The only time we collect personal information is when you submit a form yourself (the rate-watch alert signup, or, when it opens, the quote-request form), and we tell you exactly what happens to it below.

The lookups

When you search a name, the query runs against our copy of public government records (the Minnesota Department of Commerce's published enforcement actions, NAIC's public complaint data, and Minnesota's public rate-filing record) and returns the result to your browser. The query is never written to a database or a log we keep. Our analytics record event names only (for example, "a lookup was completed"), never the name or company you searched. Server logs kept by our hosting provider (Vercel) may record IP addresses for security and are retained per their standard policy.

Rate-watch alerts

If you sign up for rate-watch alerts, we store your email address, the carrier or line you asked to watch, and a record of the exact consent language you saw. We use it for one thing: emailing you when a matching Minnesota rate filing appears in the public record. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe; unsubscribing suppresses your address across every Buddy site. Your email is never sold and never shared.

The quote-request form (not open yet)

The get-quotes page currently accepts nothing: while it shows "coming soon," no information typed there is collected or stored. When the service opens, this policy will describe exactly what is collected and where it goes, and the form itself will say so too: MN Insurance Buddy does not sell, solicit, negotiate, recommend, or bind insurance. We do not quote premiums or recommend coverage amounts. If you request help, your information may be sent to a participating licensed insurance producer or marketplace. Participating agents or marketplaces may pay to receive inquiries.

The public records we republish

Enforcement, complaint, and rate-filing records on this site are public government or regulator data, republished with sources and last-checked dates. We do not edit them at anyone's request, and no one can pay to change what their record shows. If you believe a record is inaccurate, the authoritative correction path is the issuing agency or the NAIC; contact us and we will also recheck our copy against the source.

Questions

This site is built by a named Minnesota attorney; who and why is on the about page. Questions about this policy can go to the contact information there. Not affiliated with the State of Minnesota or MNsure.
